Hag, are porters (note little 'p') allowed to prescribe medications for patients if the doctors and nurses are too busy? Just wondered seeing as though it is such a high ranking job. Did you think you were Wittgenstein and told patients, sorry advised patients, to not take their pills? Maybe you had a stash of hardcore homeopathic remedies down your pants ready to give to people, or was it orgone pills?

Or, did you just keep your nose out of things well beyond your pay grade like you were meant to?

No, we are not allowed to prescribe medication. Wittgenstein was a pharmacy porter, so he delivered the drugs, but let the docs and nurses do the rest.

Yeah, but aren't you a consultant porter so you must therefore have a medical degree...or was that a basic gurney maintenance degree?

PS. I'm not knocking the portering profession but your arrogance around it and the fact you put it on a pedestal when there are more important jobs in hospitals is silly. Remember a doctor or nurse can push a bed in an emergency; a porter can't perform an operation if the surgeon isn't there.

The delegation argument doesn't work. Almost anybody can be replaced if necessary. I've seen a second anaesthetist stand in when there's no anaesthetic nurse available. Does this mean anaesthetic nurses are less important?

A surgeon can't be replaced by a porter was my point. Did you think that a porter could perform operations, perhaps some can but this is the UK not Benin.

The fact that a surgeon can't be replaced by a porter is not a reason to devalue porters, that's what I'm saying.

Porters are easier to replace then surgeons.

That still doesn't validate the delegation argument.

I've been through debates like this many times, Colin, and I know all the lines. 8)
